Shark Trivia

Did You Know that Poseidon’s daughter, Lamia, was turned into a Shark-like monster….

….by Zeus, according to Greek Mythology?

Sharks appear in several stories and Greek myths including with Poseidon, ‘God of the Seas’.

According to the story and myth, Lamia had an affair with Zeus. When Hera, the wife of Zeus, found out about the affair she kidnapped and murdered Lamia’s children, which drove Lamia to madness. Zeus then turned Lamia into a giant shark-like-monster so she could devour the innocent children of others as revenge.

The scientific name for Mackerel Sharks, Lamniformes, comes from the story of Lamia.
