Did You Know that the Texas Gulf Coast is Home to about 40 Shark species….

….in the 5,406 miles of Texas coastline that borders the Gulf of Mexico? The area is robust in the diversity of species found in the coastal waters where shark populations have experienced a rebound as regulations make fishing specific for all shark species and extremely restrictive for some.

There are about 40 shark species found in the Texas waters of the Gulf of Mexico including these most commonly found:

  • Atlantic Sharpnose Shark

  • Blacktip Shark

  • Bonnethead Shark

  • Bull Shark

  • Spinner Shark

Others that can be found include the Atlantic Angelshark, Blacknose Shark, Blue Shark, Dusky Shark, Finetooth Shark, Great White Shark, Hammerhead Shark, Lemon Shark, Narrowtooth Shark, Nurse Shark, Oceanic Whitetip Shark, Sand Tiger Shark, Sevengill Shark, Shortfin Mako Shark, Silky Shark, Tiger Shark, Thresher Shark, and Whale Shark.
