Shark Trivia

Did You Know that a Shark’s Upper Jaw is not attached to its skull….

….and that allows it to dislocate and extend its upper jaw in order to bite more effectively? This makes their mouths, including their sharp teeth, especially effective weapons.

Unlike humans who have fixed jaws, sharks can dislocate their upper jaws in order to grab, hang onto prey, and secure a meal. This lets the shark thrust its entire mouth forward to grab onto its prey.

While the mobility of their jaws varies among different species, all modern sharks are believed to have this ability to some degree.
