Shark Trivia

Did You Know that the Epaulette Shark (Hemiscyllium ocellatum)….

….has dark eyespot patches on both sides of their bodies above their dorsal fins and resemble an epaulette decoration on a soldier’s uniform? Scientists generally believe these spots either distract predators or scare them away.

….uses its front two fins to “walk” among the reefs? When they are scared, they will crawl away rather than swim.

….can survive out of water for a few minutes?
